AsYSSt Vocational training operates as the Employment, Skills & Training provision for YSS and its partner organisations.
Unique in its level of personal support and drawing on YSS’s 20 years of supporting the socially excluded,
Assist offers flexibility for learners and service users wishing to access vocational training or employment.
With the recent opening of its first dedicated training centre, the construction training unit in Droitwich offers learners the opportunity to train in an environment offering both first class training and high levels of pastoral support.
The centre supports a number of client groups through its range of qualifications. These include entry level, NVQ levels 1 & 2 and a curriculum including :
• Bricklaying
• Plastering
• Joinery, carpentry & flooring
• Cabling
• Painting & decorating
• Tiling
• Employability skills
• IT essentials
• Money management
• Personal development
• Team building
• CSCS (Construction Health & safety) preparation
• Essential life skills
Further trainings are planned for opening during 2009, these include Hereford city & Telford, Shropshire.
Complementing its training centres, the service also operates a delivery model across three additional areas:
AsYSSt Mobile Training
An peripatetic, innovative service targeted at vulnerable or challenging students, young/Ex offenders, the workless and socially excluded community learners in rurally isolated or geographic areas of need in West Mercia.
This service provides learning opportunities to socially excluded individuals or those who may experience historical difficulties in travel or access to training provision.
AsYSSt training delivers mobile vocational training to socially excluded groups, using a small fleet of vans fully equipped with trainer, equipped to train level one qualification in Construction & Motor vehicle skills.
A vehicle delivering a similar qualification in Rural and land based skills is planned for roll out Summer 2009.
Mobile training provides an excellent solution to agencies wishing to engage with traditionally difficult learners, and those seeking to provide training outcomes within their local community.
Its clients include:
• Socially excluded individuals or those with practical or social economic difficulties in accessing training
• Young people whose learning is more appropriately delivered in a vocational environment
• Schools, Colleges & Pupil referral units wishing to retain students on site during vocational periods
• Community groups wishing to engage in vocational learning within their own community setting
• Current provision without the resources or provision to deliver or invest in vocational facilities
Employment Solutions Unit
A client focused Employment brokerage, employability & IAG provision.
AsYSSt Employment solutions draw its experience and success from two defined areas:
• Working for many years supporting its clients in to employment, developing their employability levels and recognizing effective ways to introduce these to employers.
• Bringing considerable staff expertise from the private sector. Understanding the needs of employers and their respective sectors, addressing these needs in the first instance and building long term relationship.
AsYSSt works closely with a number of National partners including Cisco Systems, Travis Perkins, Allpay.Net, The Eden Project & Symantec corp.
It also works in collaboration with Business in the Community and through its Steady work programme supports its community regeneration aims.
AsYSSt currently delivers bespoke vocational training & direct employment outcomes for Job Centre +, The Shaw Trust & the Department of Work & Pensions.
AsYSST Services Limited – Community Interest Company (CIC)
A separately operated entity, formed co-operatively with YSS partners - Offering commercial services to the Private sector
whilst maintaining not-for-profit social aims.
Utilising the skills and qualifications of previous clients, It’s portfolio includes a high quality, competitive Property maintenance service and
domestic landscaping unit.
