Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin Parenting Project

YSS works with Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Youth Offending Service to provide a Parenting project. The project aims to offer support to the parents of children and young people to avoid family breakdown, youth offending, truancy, and anti-social behaviour. It also works with YISP (Youth Inclusion Support Programme) staff and workers in Shropshire and Telford respectively.

The project forms part of the local preventative strategy and offers support and guidance to parents of children aged between 8 and 17 years. The vast bulk of this project involves parents who accept support on a voluntary basis although a small number are referred to YSS by the local youth courts on a statutory orders.
Parents can receive a tiered service which in the first instance provides a listening ear and a signposting and information service. Secondly following an assessment YSS can provide a trained volunteer to offer a short structured programme of support in the family home with additional telephone support. Thirdly YSS can offer structured support through trained parenting project workers either on a one to one basis or through a rolling group programme.

We have close liaison with all those other agencies that are involved in parenting across the area, and actively seek out opportunities to work across agencies.
