YSS is a leading independent charity that aims to work with children, young people, young adults and families at risk of social exclusion.

YSS has often been described as being the ‘glue’ between young people and mainstream society; ensuring young people have increased opportunities to lead positive and constructive lives. In order to do this we have developed an innovative range of partnerships and projects with the voluntary, private and statutory sectors.

We are committed to delivering flexible services that are constantly adapted in accordance with feedback from young people accessing our services and aim to inform and shape policy and practice on a local, regional and national basis.

As an independent organisation YSS has developed a track record since 1985 of engaging and motivating with some of the most vulnerable young people in society. During this time all staff and volunteers have believed in ‘going that extra mile’ and making a real difference to young people and the local communities where they live.

We currently employ over 90 staff and have 300 volunteers who work with over 2,000 young people a year through 26 different projects and are committed to growing and developing in a way that protects our unique culture of innovation and creativity whilst remaining a community based organisation with local links.

All YSS Projects have high levels of autonomy with local governance and benefit from a professional and flexible core management infrastructure.

Projects are themed around the following areas:

   Criminal Justice Programmes
   Mentoring, Diversion and Support
   Children, Young People and Families
   Employment Support
   Vocational Training

At present projects are run across Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Staffordshire.

Funding comes from a wide range of sources including the Lottery, ESF, Youth Justice Board, Home Office, Police Services, Probation Areas, Connexions Services, Local Authorities, Health Trusts, Independent grant making trusts, our own training and consultancy services and from individual donations.

We are brimming with positive news stories, ideas for new projects and for influencing policy at all levels to allow young people the opportunity to develop and lead constructive lives within society.
