Could you become a Family Support Volunteer? Shropshire Targeted Early Help, our fantastic service that provides early help support for children, young people and their families, is seeking Family Support Volunteers. The aim of the service is to improve outcomes for children and young people aged 0-19 years by ensuring that they and their families receive appropriate support at the earliest opportunity. Our team of Family Support Volunteers play a key role in helping deliver this service, by providing both practical and emotional support. The role involves helping parents, young children or older children either together or individually. The support that you provide may include: taking parents and/or children to appointments, classes, etc; accompanying someone to a class or group when they wouldn’t have the confidence to go alone; and being a good listener and a positive influence for all family members. YSS provides full support and reimburses expenses; plus, the skills that you develop as a volunteer in this role can provide an excellent stepping stone towards a new career or work progression. All we ask is that you're over 18, patient, tolerant and non judgmental, and have good speaking and listening skills. Ideally you would be able to commit to a year as a volunteer; however we appreciate that this might not always be possible.
