Open Gardens of Wichenford 2019 YSS is delighted to be one of the charities chosen to benefit from the upcoming Open Gardens of Wichenford event, on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June. Wichenford is a small Worcestershire village with a great tradition of “open gardens” going back nearly 20 years. People come from far and wide to enjoy the weekend with many visiting on both days for a charge of only £5. This year, 17 beautiful gardens will be open. Visitors can enjoy gardens of all shapes and sizes, many with wonderful views of Northwest Worcestershire, the Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds. There will be guided walks, delicious licenced lunches, afternoon teas, a huge plant stall and two exhibitions – one of Bonsai trees and another of work by local artists. The profits will be shared amongst Wichenford village charities including the local church and day centre as well as St Richards Hospice, the Air Ambulance and Worcestershire Young Carers, a service run by YSS which supports over 550 young carers throughout the county. Organiser Sandra Kelley, “We look forward to welcoming people to our lovely gardens. They are all very different in size and style and there is something for everyone. The weekend is a really enjoyable way to raise important funds for village and community groups.” Jon Cawdron, Senior Project Co-ordinator, Worcestershire Young Carers, said: "We have more than 550 young carers registered with us but we know there are many more - at least one in every classroom. We are very grateful for donations like this which mean that we can offer young carers the chance to do things that other young people often take for granted like trips to the cinema and the seaside.” More information on the event can be found at www.wichenfordopengardens.webplus.net/ or www.facebook.com/bestopengardens/ Find out more about Worcestershire Young Carers here.
