Two young carers are celebrated with award Last night saw the return of Worcestershire’s annual young people awards run by Worcestershire youth charity, Young Solutions, where not one, but two brilliant young carers who are supported by YSS’s Worcestershire Young Carers service won awards! The Tryangle awards, which took place on Thursday 15 March at Worcester Bosch, celebrate the efforts of those who, despite health, disability or social problems manage to overcome adversity and ‘get the job done’, at home, at school or college, or within the community. Young carer Connie Sharpe was the first young carer supported by YSS to win an award, taking home the Citizenship and Environment Award. Connie was nominated by YSS Worcestershire Young Carers for her brilliant involvement in last year’s Young Carer’s Awareness Day, as well as her huge contribution to the 2017 Young Carers’ Conference YC17: Professionals & Us. Vicky Parker, YSS Keyworker who helps to deliver the Worcestershire Young Carers service, attended the awards ceremony and said: “Despite being one of the youngest members of the Participation Group, Connie’s achievements in such a short time have been amazing. She more than thoroughly deserves her award - well done Connie!” The second young carer to win an award was Logan Ware. Logan also receives support from Action for Children, who successfully nominated him for the Good Carers and Friends Tryangle Award. Vicky said: “Logan has come on in leaps and bounds and is so deserving of his award. Not only is he a young carer but he also volunteers as a Young Ambassador for Action for Children, including supporting transgender young people. Well done!” Lorraine Preece, Chief Executive at YSS, said: “We were delighted to again be backing the Tryangle Awards which are a brilliant opportunity to recognise the dedication and selflessness of young people in Worcestershire. “At YSS our Worcestershire Young Carers service works with over 400 young carers every year, aged between seven and 25 who care for a parent, sibling or grandparent due to illness, disability, physical or mental health difficulties or substance misuse. We regularly witness the outstanding dedication these young people show, in the face of what can be very difficult circumstances. "Connie and Logan are truly outstanding and we are over the moon that their brilliant achievements have been recognised in the form of a Tryangle award. On behalf of everyone at YSS, well done both, we are incredibly happy for you!” For more information about Worcestershire Young Carers please go to yss.org.uk/worcestershire-young-carers.
