We’re delighted that one of our volunteers has been recognised for her outstanding work. Mel Eastwood volunteers on our South Worcestershire Community Parenting and Development Service, which we deliver in association with Action for Children.

Around 150 Action for Children staff, together with foster carers, supporters, volunteers and young people gathered at Glaziers Hall on the banks of the River Thames in Central London to celebrate the Stephenson Awards nominees. The awards celebrate everyone who goes the extra mile to make sure Action for Children is there for the UK’s most vulnerable and neglected children, young people and families.

Mel was presented with her Outstanding Volunteer Runner Up for her work in raising supporting local families and raising awareness of the service. She is a Community Group volunteer who runs one of our outreach toddler groups every Tuesday alongside a baby weigh in clinic with the health visitor at Worcester Community Trust, Ronkswood Centre. The support Mel provides includes being a friendly face, helping people access advice and social networks and helping families during difficult times. Mel encourages families in the area to get involved and “has an infectious, positive and outgoing personality.”

Mel said: “Volunteering gives me a sense of purpose and brings back the community spirit that we lack so much these days. I have made some wonderful friends in the other volunteers, and in the people that use the service.”
