A group of Worcestershire Young Carers has returned from a busy residential weekend, organised by The Children's Society.

The event, entitled ‘Have Your Say’ was designed to bring together young carers projects from around the country, enabling the young people to carry out consultation work – including discussing a national young carers recognition scheme - and plan for the annual Young Carers Festival, which this year celebrates its 21st birthday.

The residential was held at YMCA Fairthorne Manor, Southampton. Key worker Vicky Parker travelled down along with three WYC young carers.

Vicky said, “We were really pleased to be invited to what proved to be a tiring but very productive event. Lots of new friendships were made and a great time was had by all.”

Worcestershire Young Carers supports around 600 young carers throughout the county, aged 7 to 17, as well as young adult carers aged between 18 to 25.

Young Carers Awareness Day is being held on 30th January. The theme for this year’s event is #CountMeIn, which calls on education providers to do more to identify young carers and ensure they are supported. As part of the day, the Worcestershire Young Carers team is also holding assemblies and drop in events at schools in Worcestershire, and holding a celebratory event at three Co-op stores in the county, to promote the new partnership between Worcestershire Young Carers and the Co-op Local Community Fund.
