Two Worcestershire Young Carers have enjoyed a two day trip to London, following an invitation to participate in BBC Children in Need’s new Discovery Group.

They have been specially selected to take part in the group, which met at BBC headquarters Broadcasting House, following last year’s highly successful Young Carers’ Conference, Mental Health and Me. The Discovery Group has been launched to hear from young people about the challenges they face and their views on how to best overcome them. The group includes young people, youth workers and BBC CiN staff to guide research, validate findings and make recommendations.

The young carers, Josh (age), and Shakira travelled down to London with WYC key worker, Vicky Parker. On the trip they received a surprise upgrade to first class, and were treated to a tour of the train cab by the train driver and his trainee.

Josh and Shakira are members of the BBC Children in Need-funded Participation Group, which meets monthly to focus on issues that affect young carers and helps get their voices heard by organisations and services that affect them. Worcestershire Young Carers runs the clubs as part of the services they provide to young carers throughout the county.

There is a return trip planned for later in the year.
