What is Veterans Voices?

Veterans Voices is funded by the Armed Forces Covenant. As part of our work with veterans, YSS works with a small number of ex-military personnel across Shropshire and Telford, who have been involved in the Criminal Justice System. Veterans Voices will help the Shropshire and Telford Local Covenants and Criminal Justice Forums across Shropshire improve service delivery by giving veterans the opportunity to voice their powerful testimonies alongside the providers who helped them.

Where is Veterans Voices delivered?

Veterans Voices is delivered in Shropshire and Telford.

How does Veterans Voices help?

We help each of the veterans we work with to become more confident in public speaking, helping them develop oral, visual and written accounts of their journey. We then invite representatives of the Shropshire and Telford agencies that deal with finance, housing, mental and physical health, employment and social support to hear what the veterans have to say. The intention is that each organisation represented acts to remove disadvantages from services and treats the Armed Forces Community fairly.

Why only veterans?

It has been recognised that veterans are a group within the criminal justice system where a distinct approach is beneficial, but little exists within the criminal justice system to identify and support veterans.
